Memphis Depay Makes Sweet Debut With Goals
The pre-season Barcelona vs Girona match which took place at the Estadi Johan Cruff, Saturday morning, July 25, 2021, ended with the hosts winning 3-1. In that match, Memphis Depay who made his debut as a substitute scored a goal before the game ended.
Gerrard Pique scored the first goal for Barcelona with a penalty kick in the 21st minute. Three minutes later, Rey Manaj doubled the lead. Memphis Depay added to the advantage after successfully becoming the executor in the 85th minute.
Girona could only create one goal back in the match through Samuel Size's penalty kick towards the end of the first half. Barcelona can score four goals in that match. Sergi Roberto managed to get the ball into Girona's goal before they scored a goal back. However, Sergi's goal was disallowed for offside.
In that match, Ronaldo Koeman started the match by fielding experienced players in defense, like when they beat Gimnastic 4-0 in the previous match. However, in midfield and attack, he fielded less familiar players, including Nico Gonzalez, another debutant in defensive midfield.
Manaj, who scored his fourth goal in pre-season games this week, had to be substituted after suffering a blow to the head. Depay came on for him in the 42nd minute.
In the second half, after an hour of the match, Koeman replaced eight players at once, including Clement Lenglet, Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann. Barca continued to dominate the game.
After the Barcelona vs Girona match, Ronald Koeman's team will face VfT Stuttgart at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, Germany, next week.
