LOSC Lille managed to become the new champion in the Trophee des Champions or French Super Cup after beating Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 1-0 on Monday (2/8/2021). In the match which took place at Bloomfield Stadium, Tel Aviv, Israel, Lille again showed an extraordinary appearance.

As is known, Lille managed to surprise by winning the 2020-2021 French League. Because of his achievements, the club has the right to play in the French Super Cup and coincidentally met PSG, who was the winner of the Coupe de France in the 2020-2021 season yesterday.

Of course for PSG, the match against Lille became an arena of revenge because because of this team, Les Parisiens lost the French League trophy. However, instead of beating Lille to get revenge, PSG actually lost in this important match.

PSG, who played without a number of star players such as Kylian Mbappe, Marco Verratti, and Neymar Jr, looked difficult to face Lille. No doubt, PSG who only relied on Mauro Icardi, Julian Draxler, and Arnaud Kalimuendo on the front lines could not do much.

PSG's goal actually conceded in the 45th minute through Xeka's actions. Xeka's goal then closed the first half with a score of 0-1 to fall behind PSG. Trying to get up in the second half, PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino tried to make a number of changes. On that occasion, their new player, Giorginio Wijnaldum was trusted to play in the 71st minute.

However, the presence of Wijnaldum did not change the score in the match. PSG actually controlled the game by having possession of the ball reaching more than 70%.

Even so, Lille's very strong defense contained PSG unable to score. Finally the match ended and Lille ensured themselves out as champions of the French Super Cup.

It was Lille's first title in the French Super Cup. Lille's victory broke PSG's eight-game winning streak in the French Super Cup.

PSG is known so far is still the king in the French Super Cup with 10 wins. Unfortunately that number did not turn into 11 titles because Pochettino's squad could not beat Lille.
